by Brian Kaylor (Author)

The 2016 presidential election provides voters with the two least popular nominees in polling history. Both come with a record of ethical scandals, flip-flops, and outright lies. Yet, many pastors and Christian leaders willingly risk their credibility and witness by publicly endorsing one of these flawed candidates simply because of party affiliation. Donald Trump's vulgar, bigoted, violent, authoritarian, and racist rhetoric and policies stand in stark opposition to biblical teachings. We must be politically engaged, but we must do so without ignoring our consciences and throwing away our principles. In this book, award-winning author Brian Kaylor addresses the moral issues at stake in the 2016 election, explores how the Christian faith became too closely tied to partisan politics, and considers the alternative political engagement called for in scripture. This book also includes practical steps to help Christians offer much-needed prophetic politics during this and future campaigns.

Author Biography

Dr. Brian Kaylor is an award-winning author, journalist, and speaker. He is also a (non-award-winning) stay-at-home dad. Brian's parents tell their friends he is like a Christian version of Castle (from the hit TV show) since he spends his time as a writer and dad. Brian assumes his parents also mention he and Castle are both witty and ruggedly handsome. Brian is the author of three books on religion, politics, and communication: Sacramental Politics: Religious Worship as Political Action (Peter Lang, 2015), Presidential Campaign Rhetoric in an Age of Confessional Politics (Lexington Books, 2011) and For God's Sake, Shut Up! (Smyth & Helwys, 2007). Brian serves as the Generational Engagement Team Leader for Churchnet and Contributing Editor for Ethics Daily. He has a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Communication from the University of Missouri, and a B.A. in Communication and Christian Ministry from Southwest Baptist University. He and his wife, Jennifer, were married in June of 2004 and have a son.
