by Edward Leo Jr. Semler (Author)

After retiring with over 25 years of active military service Ed Semler was routinely sought out for "words of wisdom" from prospective Chiefs participating in the Chiefs Initiation. Feeling that providing the new Chief with just a few lines on a Charge Sheet was doing them an injustice, he decided to put together his advice on becoming a well-rounded Chief Petty Officer. This book details his thoughts and experiences, both good and bad, that helped him through his career.

Author Biography

Edward Semler is a retired U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant who served over 25 years in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. In the Army he was an enlisted man and obtained the rank of specialist four (E-4). While in Korea he deployed for Team Spirit in 1983 and attended the Republic of Korea Ranger School. While at Fort Polk he deployed for REFORGER 1984 in Germany. In the Coast Guard he was an enlisted man obtaining the rank of master chief petty officer (E-9), was commissioned as an officer, and retired as a lieutenant (0-3E).
