by Frank M. Berger MD (Author)
Believe it or not, in enjoying this book you can find yourself agreeing with Einstein, disagreeing with Dostoevsky, laughing with Plato. Filled with amazing gems from great minds, THINK FOR YOURSELF lets you discover how smart you already are. Too smart to keep following the inherited opinions of your past or the barrage from today's intense media. Time to determine your own counsel on how you approach life and the major issues of the day that affect you.
Roaming through the book's amazing sprawl of topics-from art to ethics, government, love/sex, money, and over 40 more-will refresh your thinking. In each, you'll read the author's sharp-focused take, then comments from others that parallel, support, or contradict his views. You'll come away enriched and ready to claim your own conclusions with conviction. Making decisions reflecting what you believe, and not the opinions of others, can become the strong and confident habit the author relied on in his life and you can rely on in yours.
Please note: This book is a new reprint, with new title and cover, of A Man of Understanding by Dr. Berger, which is no longer available. Here are excerpts from three of its reviews: "The book I keep by my bedside to read every night." "Challenges us to examine our assumptions and truths so we might find our way towards full and flourishing lives." "Inspiration from a contemporary genius." Complete texts of these are on the A Man of Understanding Amazon page.
Author Biography
Dr. Berger was renowned for discovering the first anti-anxiety drug, which revolutionized modern medicine. Personal experience colored his belief that we should let go of the opinions of others and instead consider all the realities in reaching our conclusions. He was raised in Czechoslovakia without formal religion, though his mother was Jewish. At 26, he was a successful young scientist at the national health institute in Prague when Hitler invaded. He promptly married his girlfriend and a few days later was a refugee in England with a new wife, an unrecognized medical degree, no money, and almost no knowledge of the language. He faced immense challenges, had to re-think everything, and that's when he devised the philosophy given here that served him so well in life--and which he hoped could serve you. He had also developed the habit of writing down observations of others that inspired him. His lifetime collection of these give this book its extraordinary content.
