by Kathleen Estelle Joiner (Author)

Before the beginning of time, God had us each in mind. He had our journey already thought about and carved through the pages of time. Each chapter was written, every mountain climbed, every road charted. Every entrance ramp to put us back on track was already carved out. So before the world was created, God had great-grandmother Estelle, her family and their destiny charted and mapped. And so it is with us. When we were born, angels were assigned to keep, protect, assist and escort us through all times, to our appointed end. When Great grandmother Estelle was born, her talents and gifts were embedded in her DNA. She used the power of the pen to overcome numerous challenges, to encourage her in childbearing years, and turbulent economic times. The pen was her tool to encourage herself, family, and countless others who read her gems in her weekly column in the Oakland Tribune. This gift is benchmarked in her legacy. So, after her death, the poetry was boxed and stored. Decades later it was presented to my mother, by her step mother, in California. That box, hosted, carried, housed, and was a cardboard guardian to these poetic treasures. I believe from 1889 to 2019, great-grandmother's angels got with Mama's angels to help escort this box to my generation. Although Great grandmother Estelle had passed, her assignment of sharing her poetry was not complete. Until now.15 years ago, Mama gave it to me saying, "My grandma never got a chance to publish; maybe you can do something with them." In that moment, the legacy was transferred. Although this was a physical impartation, all of the family members enjoy similar DNA gifts from Mama and Daddy, our ancestors. Daddy was in the Navy and Air Force, an artist, and engineer. Mama and Daddy were both pillars for family, staunch advocates of education, caring for the youth and elderly. Philip was a Lieutenant Commander (USN), and an excellent teacher in VA. Remains a lover of science.Michael, has held local and international writing positions, enjoys a successful career in media/communications in CA. Roanna's passion is teaching children and caring for senior citizens - with excellence and is an extremely awesome baker. Margaret, who is deceased, was compassionate and outstanding in youth social service. Kathleen excels in communications, publishing, teaching the power of the pen. Paul, NMD, Ph.D, is a naturopathic doctor in GA, offering holistic care; a passion stemming from Mom's love for plants and their healing components. Christopher cares for customers; teaches and trains team members. Steven teaches, supervises and leads in the governmental sector. This is our DNA. This legacy is rooted in our children, cousins and family tree. Each one of us has inherited a box; not necessarily a physical container, but God-designed passions and tools to enrich, empower and impact our families and future generations.
