Author Biography

Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) was the most famous cartoonist of his time, best known for his comical inventions. He once described these zany contraptions as "a symbol of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to achieve minimum results." A cartoonist, humorist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor, he had a 72-year career and wrote and drew nearly 50,000 cartoons, syndicated in newspapers around the world.

Robert Leighton has been creating and illustrating his own brand of one-of-a-kind visual puzzles since 1982, first in Games magazine, later in Disney Adventures, Nickelodeon Magazine, and a host of national advertising campaigns. He has created dozens of comics-based puzzles, including his original creation "Cross Comics." He is part of the three-person puzzle-writing company Puzzability, which has authored many books. He is also an occasional children's book illustrator, television writer, and New Yorker cartoonist.
