by Catherine Holland (Author)

Practical everyday questions answered about breastfeeding your baby, written by mother of 3 breastfed babies and voluntary breastfeeding counsellor with 19 years' experience of counselling parents. Information and ideas including breastfeeding in public, breastfeeding support, how to increase breastmilk, advantages of breastfeeding, tips for breastfeeding, breastfeeding positions, breastfeeding problems, awareness of cultural obstacles to breastfeeding - and how to overcome them. Everything you need to know! The mechanism by which the mother's body responds to the baby when it needs more milk is described showing that you can easily control how much milk you make (twins and triplets included), so there is no need to worry. As you get to know your baby you pick up the signals and respond quickly so that everyone is happy! Make this a joyful time in your life. The Reality of breastfeeding for many women in the western world is that it is a disappointment. For whatever reason they expect labour to be long and difficult and breastfeeding to be quick and easy. This book covers things we think we ought to know and are dismayed to find that we don't. Current problems with the inadequacy of formula reported in the media have highlighted the need for parents to have the information they need to be able to breastfeed. It is not just a decision that they make. Unfortunately to be told about the dangers of formula does not make you instantly able to breastfeed. Recent research studies conducted by midwives acknowledge the inconsistency of advice given to new mothers, one subtitled "No wonder they get confused". In the meantime parents battle on through a quagmire of differing personal opinions, instead of being guided by the baby and trusting their bodies. This book contains ideas and information for parents and supporters of breastfeeding, written by a mother who has breastfed who is also an experienced breastfeeding counsellor, using the experience of hundreds of women and providing the sort of assistance that will enable women to continue to breastfeed. A mother sent me this recently: I read your book whilst breastfeeding my daughter, it became my bible and I carried it everywhere with me . Every doubt or hurdle I would turn to your book. I successfully breastfed my daughter well past 12 months. I wish more people knew of your book, it would keep many people breastfeeding for longer!!!
