The play explores themes of love, loyalty, jealousy, and betrayal as the characters navigate their complicated relationships. The King's Henchman was first performed in 1927 and is considered one of Millay's most successful plays.1927. In addition to publishing three plays in verse, Millay the Pulitzer prize-winning American poet, also wrote the libretto of one of the few American grand operas, The King's Henchman.
