by Tanya Ross (Author)

Tanya W. Ross is a scientist, researcher, athlete and author who grew up in a working class family in the Philadelphia suburbs. Her interests in science, psychology, sports, music and sociology paved the way for a multifaceted career which now includes being an author.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern University, a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Nutrition at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and many courses in adult education.

Many years were spent in Pharmaceutical Research and Regulatory Affairs at several different companies and as an independent consultant. As a mother of two children she embarked in a new direction as an industrial hygienist and a safety and health consultant for New York State Department of Labor. For 20 years she visited all sorts of workplaces to provide safety and health evaluations and suggest improvements in workers' environments. She was struck by the hard working congenial people who perform their tasks with dignity and pride. With company and worker permissions, she photographed over a thousand people working in many fields.

This book is an illustration of about a hundred people demonstrating all types of work. The dignity of their efforts and the many occupations they represent demonstrates to the reader the day to day efforts that these essential workers do to make our society great.
