About the Contributor(s): David Baily Harned (PhD, Yale Graduate School) is a retired professor of religious studies who remains active as a classroom teacher and a scholarly writer. He taught at Williams, Smith, and Allegheny Colleges, and served a five-year term as president at Allegheny College. His longer terms of service were seven years as the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Louisiana State University and ten years as the founding chairman of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia. Elaine H. Harned is David's wife.

Author Biography

David Harned is the author of nine books and numerous articles and the recipient of a number of honors and awards. His books have been published in many countries, both in the East and in the West. Mrs. Gandhi's Guest is his second volume to be first published in India. Dr. Harned served three different times as Visiting Professor in the Department of Christian Dogmatics at New College, the University of Edinburgh. He has also served as Visiting Professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and Austin Presbyterian Seminary. He was the first Visiting Professor of Christian Studies in the Guru Gobind Singh Department of Religious Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. He has lectured and traveled throughout much of India for forty years.
