by Karl D. Klicker (Author)

MERATHON is part memoire, part social psychology, part science fiction. MERATHON explores the causes and impact of the December 2001 collapse of ENRON, the once-powerful Fortune 7 energy and commodities-trading company. MERATHON runs through unemployment and the grief cycle, leadership, and the philosophies of Quality - with marathons as both metaphor and therapy. MERATHON is a resource for the unemployed, the entrepreneur, the MBA student, and men and women in leadership positions in any industry.

Author Biography

Karl Klicker started his running career in junior high school, ran a 4:20 mile in regionals as a track team captain in high school, and competed in Minnesota state competition at the end of his senior year - six weeks before enlisting in the Marine Corps. Karl served 12 years as an enlisted Marine, six years as a Naval Intelligence Officer, and four additional years as a Marine captain before retiring in 1995. With a BA in English (Texas A&M University); MS in Education (University of Southern California); MS in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies (University of South Florida - Dec. 2013); and Doctorate in Education (Ball State University), Karl has taught as an adjunct professor for more than a dozen colleges and universities since 1983. Between retirement from the Marine Corps in 1995 and a recall to active duty in 2005, he served as a training manager at General Motors in Detroit (via Hughes Aircraft); as a training manager supporting astronaut training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston (via Raytheon); and as a training manager at ENRON (through ENRON's collapse in 2001). Laid off from ENRON in 2001, Karl launched LASER CONSULTING in Houston, Texas, and conducted seminars and workshops in Leadership, Conflict Management, Time Management and Organizational Dynamics with more than 30 aerospace and chemical manufacturing companies in Texas and Louisiana. Since his first Houston Marathon, running with the ENRON running club in 2001, Karl has completed 22 marathons - including 2 Boston, 7 Houston, 4 Marine Corps, 2 Gasparilla (Tampa) - two 50-mile ultras, and numerous 5K, 10K, sprint triathlons and other races. Certified marathon PR: 3:18 at the age of 51. Karl is employed with a global engineering firm, serving as a principal military strategist in support of a large US government organization with transnational interests.
