Author Biography

Born in Greece in 1940, Tony was raised and educated in South Africa. Always passionate about films, he began his film career in 1958 working on theatrical film commercials at the former Killarney Film Studios in Johannesburg. In 1958 he was invited by the president of 20th Century-Fox, Mr Spyros P Skouras to study film production in Hollywood. Part of his training during this period included Acting For The Camera, taught by Sandy Meisner who was Head of Drama at 2Oth Century- Fox. Completing the 20th Century-Fox film programme, he gained hands-on experience, working for six years as Production Assistant to three-time Academy Award winning producer/director George Stevens. He also worked with LIFE Magazine photo journalist Eliot Elisofon as assistant still photographer. His skills were honed in the United States, Greece, Canada and back here in South Africa. He has won numerous awards over the years for his work as a director and for a time specialised in documentary and educational films. He returned to South Africa in 1992 and is the co-founder of the Screen Actors Studio in Cape Town.
