by Jennifer Althaus (Author)

Jennifer Althaus watched helplessly as her daughter, Celeste, battled with confusion and daily anxiety. Exhausted and at her wits' end, Jennifer sought and found an unconventional yet profoundly practical therapy that would change all their lives. Having a child with Autism is something no parent anticipates yet the number of children diagnosed with Autism in Australia and around the world is on the rise. With answers to the cause of Autism still seeming distant, struggling families seek all the help they can get. For Jennifer's family, this help came in the unlikely form of an ex-racing Greyhound named Minnie.A Journey of Love is an uplifting and powerful memoir that speaks of the pain and heartache associated with parenting a child with autism while celebrating the love, hope and achievement of adopting an ex-racing Greyhound and training her as an assistance dog."This delightful story chronicles the loving connection between a severely anxious girl with autism and her dog. Where medication and conventional behaviour management strategies failed, this devoted greyhound succeeds in transforming her life."Dr Tony AttwoodAuthor, Asperger's Syndrome and Adjunct Associate Professor, Griffith University, Queensland

Author Biography

Jennifer Althaus has been involved in the writing and marketing of books for many years in her role as a publicist. She is an avid supporter of the self-publishing industry, having helped many authors write, compile and market their work over the past 10 years. Always busy writing with others she finds little time left to publish her own work, with many projects waiting to see the light. 'A Journey of Love' is her first memoir, with 'Magical Minnie' being her first children's picture book. Jennifer writes regular articles for the online independent magazine, The Australia Times. With a love of words and a creative mind, she can see no other life than one that is surrounded by reading and writing. Currently residing on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Jennifer is the mother of three children, two of whom have Autism. While working and writing she home educates her youngest daughter, Celeste. Her passion lies with a life of positivity, dreaming of a world where positivity is the norm and negativity is long forgotten. She follows the motto 'life is learning, learning is life', embracing each day for the opportunities it brings us to grow, not only as individuals but universally. Jennifer loves to hear from people, finding the viewpoints and opinions of others liberating and fascinating. In her eyes, all things happen for a reason and we are all connected, if only in a very small way.
