Author Biography

Grant Hilderbrand, Ph.D., earned graduate degrees in Zoology from Washington State University, studying the relationship between the diet of Alaskan brown bears and their body composition. Grant later joined the Alaska Department of Fish and Game as a wildlife biologist where he spent the next decade investigating the ecology of bears, moose, wolves, and other wildlife species. During his tenure as a wildlife biologist, Grant published numerous scientific articles on the nutritional physiology of wildlife and served as a referee and associate editor for several international research journals. Grant is also a Fellow of the National Conservation Leadership Institute. In time, Grant combined his passions for fitness, science, and the outdoors by opening Spartan Fitness Alaska, LLC, a personal training and fitness consulting business dedicated to developing functional fitness that transfers to the trail, mountain, slope, or water. Grant is a Certified Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise and is a CrossFit(r) Level-1 Instructor. Grant makes his home in Anchorage, Alaska, where he and his wife, Katia, and children, Devon, Zoey, Jonah, and Mila enjoy anything active and outdoors.
